Soul Purpose Counseling provides a range of outpatient and assessment services for individual adults and couples, including specialty treatments like Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing (EMDR).

EMDR is an evidence-based treatment originally designed to release the distress associated with traumatic memories. EMDR protocol sets the conditions for healing system traumas and regulating emotional and arousal states.

Soul Purpose Counseling & Consultation, PLLC is a private psychotherapy practice owned and operated by Ashley Hinton, a Licensed Professional Counselor and National Certified Counselor

Ashley's mission is to compassionately provide safe and effective psychotherapy services. Her passion lies in helping those who find themselves limited because of their own destructive and distorted thoughts, feelings, or behaviors.

If you are exhausted by walking this path and feeling alone in doing so, then take the first step toward seeking help in an environment that is comfortable and confidential.

Ashley's professional expertise includes extensive studies on the biological nature and complex manifestations of trauma. She has completed Basic and Advanced Certification training in Somatic and Attachment-Focused EMDR from the Personal Transformation Institute.

Ashley's concentrated area of focus is on treating the source of trauma, not just the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD is a disorder that develops in some people who have experienced a shocking, scary, or dangerous event.

Our bodies know they belong; it is our minds that make our lives so homeless.

-John O'Donohue

It is natural to feel afraid during and after a traumatic situation. Fear triggers many split-second changes in the body to help defend against danger or to avoid it. This “fight-or-flight” response is a typical reaction meant to protect a person from harm. And although we are adaptive by nature, stored trauma can wreak havoc on the human system, manifesting all sorts of symptoms that might look like something else.

Memory can be one of these symptoms.

The window of tolerance is another important concept as it relates to working with trauma and dysregulated states. For individuals who have experienced trauma, that window often becomes quite narrow. They may space out and dissociate, or get too angry or anxious to focus. Or, they might fluctuate between hyper- and hypo-arousal. Learn more about window of tolerance and ways to manage your zone.
